Well, the Christmas break is almost over. All that excitement and it’s over in a flash. How was the big day for all of you? What did you get? I hope it was fabulous. I figure the best way to beat those post Christmas blues is to relive the best bits in a picture post. So here is a sneak peek at this year’s festivities. 1. Kicking off the sparkly season with a bit of gold glitter. Trust me when I say it got EVERYWHERE.

3. The desired destination of the gold glitter was actually my nails. Look how they turned out! I used Barry M polish and Topshop glitter.

14. To top it all off I was very excited by the arrival of my train tickets to London for a March visit to see Les Mis on the West End. Let the countdown begin…

6. Had my eye on this Topshop polish for a while. So pretty. Called ‘Beacon.’
7. Purple and green for Halloween! The Purple is by Barry M, the glitter as mentioned above.
8. Current addiction: marshmallows! So sweet and fluffy!

A new post series! Yay!
Welcome to Friday Faves, a post that will include a small collection of random favourites that caught my attention during the week. A mixed bag of bits and bobs that piqued my interest. These things can be in the form of pictures I’ve found on the net, titbits from social media, things I’ve seen or watched, things I’ve done, places I’ve been, products I’ve purchased, things I’ve read, the list is endless. 1. Cheers! A nice cool Ginger Ale. Lunching with Mamma Smith, it would be rude not too!
2. Couldn’t resist these MAC purchases. Been wanting these two products for a while, Paint Pot in Chilled on Ice and a 266 angled brush.
3. Sleek blusher in Rose Gold. Such a pretty product. I have been using this blush non stop since buying.
4. I already own a Sleek eye shadow palette in Au Naturel and use it a lot. The new one in this pic is called Storm. Pigmented, easy to blend with a pocket friendly price. Winner. Doncaster Superdrug please start stocking Sleek!
5. This week I was very impressed when the new A/W issue of ASOS Magazine fell through the letter box. A fabulous little read.
6. My friend Terri and I were bonding until this happened. I’m team Costa, Terri team Starbucks. We can no longer be friends!
7. Spent a lovely day this week with my two nephews, a trip to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park then bowling, I even won a game!
8. Topshop playsuit. Possible outfit for my birthday celebrations next weekend.
9. Nails. Gold glitter bases. Using Topshop and Models Own polishes.
10. Anyone else on Orange/EE that has trouble with their service? My iPhone quite regularly says No Service. Then all these zeros happen. Sort it out Orange!!

1. The nicest lunch. Chunky chips and a sandwich.
2. Weird (i.e. posh) chocolate brownie. 
3. Real Techniques Powder and Blush brushes. Been after these two for a while.
4. After watching Zoella use some salt spray in a YouTube vid I decided to give it a go myself. This is a Toni & Guy one.
5. I got sick of hearing everyone mention Sleek makeup and never being able to find it anywhere so I ordered some prods from the website. This is the iDivine eyeshadow palette in Au Naturel and a blush in Pixie Pink. I love them both.
6.Make up face using my new Sleek products.
7. It’s not like I need more but here’s Nails Inc in Victoria and Maybelline Color Show in Speckled Pink.
8. I love these little vials of nail glitter from Topshop. Decided to purchase the darker glitters after loving the lighter shades. Messy as all hell to use but super pretty!

10. Build me up buttercup….
11. Pretty stained glass window.
12. Mini Cookie Dough, bit of a let down to be honest. Only about 2 pieces of actual cookie dough in it!

1. Up at 3am doing some blog writing by hand. Why do all the best ideas happen in the middle of the night?
2. Yummy Katsu Curry lunch at Rice with Mamma Smith.

5. Latest MAC eyeshadow obsession, Satin Taupe.
6. Two new MAC shades in Pink Pearl Pop and Hue. Bringing the grand total of mac lipsticks I own to a ridiculous amount.
7. Pretty rainbow shining in the morning, then gale force winds battered the same afternoon.
8. Glittery nails. I went a bit OTT with the sparkles. About 4/5 coats worth of OTT.
9. Fishtail plait done by my hairdresser. The only person brave/patient enough to bother.
10. Latest ‘Jemm Frances Reads…’ post. The Night Circus is a definite fave. Have a read of my review here.
11. Costa on the go. I just can’t help myself.
12. Me, having a good makeup day. Ladies, admit it, we all have them. Like good hair days.
13. It was a polka dot dress and a leather satchel kinda day.
14. Planning a little excursion to Newcastle with the BBF over a pizza lunch, as you do.

Those of you who read the very first polish post on here will have noticed that it was about galaxy nails. Not really anticipating how popular these kinds of posts would be I didn’t post up a step by step of how I created the galaxy nails, just details of what polishes I used etc. Since then I have received lots of requests asking how I create the galaxy design.
So never one to disappoint, here is my take on the galaxy nail trend.

Begin by giving your nails a base coat, I’m loving Essie’s Nourishing Base Coat at the minute. After only a couple of uses I’ve already noticed a difference to my dry, weak nails. Then colour your nails all over with either a navy blue or black polish (I obv chose navy.) If you opt for the blue you may need a couple of coats to get the shade just right.
Once your background colour has mostly dried take your make up sponge (you don’t need to use the whole sponge, using some scissors just snip off what you need) and dip it into some white polish. Dab it off a little so it isn’t overloaded then sponge onto your nails. I did so diagonally across each nail.
Next, using the same method, dip your sponge into some purple polish and sponge it along the edges of the white.
After the purple it’s the pink polish. I apologise for not being able to see the pink very well in the picture. The polish I used has a bit of a shimmer to it and no matter how hard I tried, flash on or off I couldn’t get it to show up very well on camera. But it’s the same principle as the purple. Dip in your sponge and dab the pink randomly onto the white. The beauty of this design is that the messier it looks the better the overall effect, so don’t worry about being neat.
The last colour I used was a bronze/gold. Once again get some polish on the sponge and this time dab it over the navy (or black) and along the edges of your nails.
Next up you’ll be using the dotting tool. If you don’t have dotting tools you can alternatively use the white Models Own Nail Art Pen or a regular cocktail stick would do the job nicely. Whatever you’re using you need to put put on some white dots in little clusters, these will represent your stars.
You’ve come this far and don’t want to ruin it now so give your nails a minute or two to dry off before adding a fine layer of glitter polish to add some sparkle to your galaxy.
Once this is set, give your nails a coat or two of top coat to seal in and protect all your hard work.
To jazz up this design even further you could add a glitter nail, like so.
